Every state has AT LEAST 2 accents being a city and a rural accent, so that's at least 100. But that's still a gross under-estimation.

As an American, I understood 90% of them. But High Tide and Chesapeake Bay are very Old English and not something you hear often. You don't realize how much you hear some of these as an American. But I would say 70% of Americans speak without much of a distinct accent.

People in other countries joke about American houses being destroyed by some "wind" all the time. Tornados aren't wind though. A few weeks ago, a tornado completely erased a post office in my hometown. 3 stories, full brick/concrete construction, marble floors....nothing left but rubble after a medium sized tornado hit for a few seconds.

I had pretty much the same reaction when I went to the UK, there are a ton of different accents and some of them I could understood fine, but other times I would have to ask people to repeat things four or five times before I understood.

I’m from Pittsburgh and yeah we can talk like that but I choose not to. I live in Colorado now and you wouldn’t know I’m from Pittsburgh unless I’m tired or mad and fall into it. We have some great words though. I found the Cajuns, some of the Appalachians hardest to understand.

The movie accent is actually the “Ohio” or “Nebraska” accent. That’s why most call centers are in those two states. Our accents are the easiest for everyone to understand including other Americans.🤷🏾‍♂️

As an American with a standard accent, by the time it got to the Southern accent, I understood you better myself.

It’s extremely obvious to anyone in most industries that super weapons exist, as in ones not used and left unknown to everyone but a few. The country with incentive to not show it, is the US…. The reality that everyone is pointing machine guns… when another country is using nukes… except the machine guns are nukes and the comparative nukes are an invisible automatous gun.

We generally refer to the garbage disposal as “the disposal”. Although they are not in every home in the US, I am age 63 and we have had one in every house and/or apartment (flat) that I have lived in for the last 60 years. I am quite surprised that it is not more popular in other countries. It would not be difficult to install one under your kitchen sink. Your question, “where does it all go?”…. Since the “rubbish” is only soft food, (no large bones or paper or metal), the disposal with its fast spinning blades chops the food into very fine particles that can easily be flushed down into the sewer system where it decomposes along with other waste. Hope this is helpful.

I lived outside RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk UK in the 1970s. One winter I rented a roughly 900 square foot, three room, thatched roof, bungalow with a loft bedroom. It cost me 15 pounds per month. My only issue with it was when I would run a space heater to take the frost off the air the walls would sweat and the condensation would pool in a low spot on the floor. I moved into a three room walk up apartment in the NCO club building on RAF Feltwell. I was raised in a two story US house (each floor was 2,000 square feet) with 4 bedrooms, full bath, 2 half baths, 4 fireplaces, walk in closets, full kitchen, formal dining room, living room/library over a full basement and two car garage on a 6 acre lot. My father built it in 1951 for the family. We had an orchard, large vegetable garden, pasture, yearling beef cows, milk cow, chickens, milk goats and a large cut flower garden with a gazebo that my mother loved sitting in on summer days. In the states the smallest house I've lived in is a 1500 sq ft one story with an attached two car garage, a full basement on two acres. One acre is where the veg garden and chicken run/coop is. It cost me $62,000 in 2017. We simply have a lot more room in the US.

The 2011 tornado in North Alabama USA, I was working in Birmingham - 1-1/2hrs South from home in Cullman county. It took me over 5hrs to get home after it passed thru. In April 2014 I also lost my home to a tornado in Cullman county. Thankfully, I was in my dad's basement 20-minutes away. So, you wanna move to US, just make sure you have a basement! Tornadoes are predictable to an extent, and we do get warnings. God bless ya, Hun.

Born and raised in California. Never left. First 16 years of my life in the north, then the last 27 here in the south. I'm 3rd generation American by way of Mexico. I have forgotten most of my Spanish. But I am constantly told that I still have a minor accent. I also have a slight Oakie accent cause of the cowboys/ranchers in and around inland NorCal. Mix that with the California dude bro/surfer accent from the decades of being in SoCal and you have the way I speak. It's interesting to people who meet me for the first time.

So hilarious. And if you move to America, Las Vegas is where I live...we dont get tornados and not many earthquakes in my lifetime... 66 years

Yea. I'm guilty of owning a v8 4×4 truck. But thats because I live in a earthquake/tsunami/firestorm prone area of the country. Being able to go off road might save my life.😆

American ascents change as people move from one region to another. The strength of the accent often depends upon how long you live in one area.
